Test Your Savvy!

Questions to Ask

Towards the end of the interview, when you are asked "Do you have any questions?", a savvy job hunter will have in their arsenal of questions to ask the following powerful weapons:

  1. What is your management style? This question is powerful because the subtext is a statement which tells your perspective employer that you are truly interested in a good personality match. Also, it lets the interviewer discuss his/her favorite topic: themselves!

  2. What concerns do you have about me or my background? Notice that this an open-ended question. You may be able to uncover any misunderstandings about your skills or experience during the interview. Perhaps the employer has misinterpreted your exact meaning and has eliminated you as a candidate. This question keeps you under consideration and stops you from moving into the "reject" pile.

  3. May I have the job? This is a good way to close the interivew. Most candidates find it too bold to raise, but it can be highly beneficial to go ahead and ask it. Employers are emotionally involved in seeking future employees. They want to work with people who want to work with them. They are much more likely to offer a job to someone who has let them know explicitly that they want to work for their firm.
